How much chlorine is needed to add to a pool?

How much chlorine should I add to the pool if there was a decomposing body in it? Been there a couple days.?

  • I am a pool operator that in VA that had a small "drowning" problem in our pool.

  • Answer:

It would be a good idea to maybe drag the dead body out first, give the pool a heavy hit of chlorine, like a triple dose, and run the filters overtime for a couple of days.

This doesn't seem like a real question, but I'll answer it anyways. Because the diseases that are possible in a human body are numerous the disinfection time should probably be the same amount of time as for finding a dead raccoon in your pool. Most dead animals found in your pool would only require 30 minutes of disinfection. - Raise the free chlorine or maintain it at 2 ppm; maintain the pH levels at 7.5 or less with water temperature above 77 Degrees Fahrenheit. These are the best levels for disinfection. - The free chlorine and pH should remain at these levels for 24 hours. - Make sure the filtration system is running through the 24 hours.
