How should I prepare for Lifeguard Training?

How do I as a beginner properly prepare for Triathlons?

  • Alright so as of right now my training really isn't really fully geared towards Triathlons.. I figure I would transition into each sport gradually. I'm only 15 and have pretty much only been exposed to running, I've done some swimming and found I was actually pretty good (for a beginner anyways). Right now I usually bike (on my dad's old mt. bike) to a local stadium where I do a lot of my running (usually run 3-5 miles in addition to the 2mile bike ride) and I do that 5-6 days a week. I'm hoping to start by running a few 5 and 10ks and eventually half/full marathons (although those might be far down the road for me). I'm 6'0" about 190lbs and in decent shape right now and being overweight most of my childhood, I'm still trying to lose those last about 5-10 lbs to really get my training going, I'm also planning on joining the YMCA here in October when I turn 16 and really get started on my swimming as well as possibly becoming Lifeguard certified. So basically my question is what more can I do to prepare? I've got a decent amount of time on my hands to where I can train anywhere from 1-3 hours on most days. I would really like to make the process as fast as possible, I've stayed active the past couple of years by playing sports and now running ever since I transferred to a school with no athletics program so I'm not really scared of injury/over training.

  • Answer:

As a triathlete and a competitive swimmers I have to say the two main things you need is peak physical fitness and stamina. Stamina: train long but not really hard. Swim for 3 hours at a time, don't split it up. Do that twice a week. Go for a long run at an easy pace for a couple of hours. For fitness, it really just takes time. I was only able to complete my first triathlon after about a full year of training long and hard. Hope I helped
