What are some good exercises for competitive swimming?

What are some great exercises to do to improve my swimming?

  • I swim on a team called NOVA, and I swim 6-7 days a week EVERY week. I love the adrenilane rush of swimming and I work really really hard in practice. Since I have moved up recently, my meet times have been getting REALLY GOOD and I want to get EVEN BETTER. I do pilates every week and I run every other day. What are some more exercises to help me swim even faster???

    I have won gold medals at Australian nationals and swam at selected swim camps. What you are doing is great, running and Pilate's.. Just try to remember that you can burn you body out. Instead of running everyday why don't you try some light weights?? As in pin weights!! If you are not for that then try kick boxing, its excellent for swimming. Using a medicine ball(the old school ones) It would really help though if i knew what stroke it is that you excel in or want to excel in.. I could help you alot better!!!

u swim on NOVA????? I swim on NCA, did u go to the duel meet in last November? I was there, I'll share some of my secrets. What I do is stand with your hands/arms positioned in streamline, and have your legs shoulder width apart and go into a squat and back up for 20. Also lay down (great before or in bed) and have legs somewhat together and rapidly put them down WITHOUT letting them onto the ground for 20.

you should find a good dryland workout that is tailored toward swimming-particularly some exercises that will help you create more explosiveness off starts and turns. another thing you can do is work on increasing your flexibility. doing these things on a regular basis should have very positive effects. pilates is good, but i would not run too much because that can begin to have negative effects. let me know if you'd like more specific exercises.

well depends on the stroke you want to improve on. but mostly when u swim laps that itself makes a nice excersize. ive been swimming and i am also in a team and my coach tells me to lift weights to improve my butterfly and freestyle and the other 2 strokes
