What does a wing do in rugby?

What does it mean if my rugby coach moves me to wing?

  • I'm a girl. I play inside center for junior girls rugby team at my school. My coach also coaches senior girls and wepracticee together (juniors and seniors team practise together) and he recently moved me to wing for the senior girls team, but I still have my position with junior girls. I'm also a starter on both teams. Does this mean he thinks I'm really good?

  • Answer:

Yeah you can play both. Senior players smash junior teams. You shouldn't get hurt.

I think it is a relatively safe bet that he would consider you a good player. I would be worried about eligibility problems. Where I coach, a player must declare for either Senior or Junior and is not allowed to play for both teams. The other thing to consider is that most junior and senior teams play on the same day. It is unwise and medically unsafe to play more than eighty minutes of rugby a day. In fact, many rugby leagues will not allow players to play more than eighty minutes of rugby a day. If you are playing two full games your coach is putting you at risk for a serious injury and he should be removed as a coach if this is the case.
