Can you go for a drop goal from a short arm free kick?

  • I'm not too sure if you can or not, but if the law allows you to attempt a drop goal from a short arm penalty, why don't some of the super14teams go for the drop if they get one infront of the posts if their down by 1 or 2 points?

The opposition has to have touched the ball before it can go over for a drop goal so the only time it could occur directly would be if a charge down was attempted and the ball grazed the hand of the opposition and then the ball went over the cross bar. It could be 10 phases without a stop in play and the attacking team can still not kick a field goal until the ball is touched by the other team.

Not directly. The usual method is a quick tap, pass to your pre-positioned kicker, who is then free to attempt a field goal. It must be done quickly: the opposition probably have already targeted your kicker, and will rush him as soon as the tap-free is taken. ...Stop Press! Make that "...quick tap, pass, form a maul, feed to kicker..." (I've just checked the Wiki reference.)

LMAO @ "leroy's" answer. Dude, you have absolutely NO IDEA, do you? Drop goal can't be taken directly from a free kick, ball needs to be tapped before taking the kick.

I'm not sure if you can do attempt one straight from the free kick i doubt it , but tap it first and pass backward to the kicker.
