Answer:
OK -- I'm assuming you mean Rochester NY, which means the USA. There are two versions of Rugby -- Rugby League and Rugby Union, but you won't find any League in the US. League is played in Northern England, Australia, and pretty much nowhere else. Union is played all over the world. Two suggestions if you want to learn to play Rugby Union. Wikipedia has a pretty good article called "Playing Rugby Union". You will find it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playing_rugby_union. The other is go to any decent public library and borrow a book called "Rugby for Dummies". It is intended for a North American audience, and is an excellent resource for beginners. For fitness -- rugby in unlike American football in that play is continuous -- no breathers after every tackle. You are going to be running at least a couple of miles during a game. Clubs are aways happy to train beginners, but they do appreciate it if they come out fit and prepared, so start jogging. Supplement that with some interval/sprint training and you will do just find. You don't need to be worrying about strength training at this point. As for your ear -- it is highly unlikely that there is anything "in" it -- that basically only happens on TV -- but if you are truly worried, see a doctor.

If you are a book learner, then read the books like "Rugby for Dummies" and such to learn the game. If you're like me, then you need to just play to learn the game. Whenever I try to explain rugby to people (I live in the US also so most people have no idea), I always explain that it's a mix of soccer and American football. However, when you learn rugby, don't try to compare it to anything because it is its own thing. You will learn best by just joining a team and playing in matches. You will run around like an idiot not knowing what's going on but you will have a blast doing it! You will screw up and by doing so, you will learn. I played for Bowling Green for 4 and a half years and it took me every bit of that time to learn the game but I had the time of my life doing it. Just go out there and DO IT. You will learn and have fun at the same time.

It depends where you live- I'm in Australia and I watch the rugby on FoxSports.. I don't know how the channels are all over the world, but you can always find it online if you really want. As for how does rugby work, you can find a better explanation than I could give you if you just google it, I'm sure. I can tell you about the two different codes of rugby though. There's rugby union and rugby league. I, personally, prefer rugby league (which is very big in australia- the NRL is the national comp, and also in england- the superleague is the comp.) Union, however, is more widely played around the world, and tends to pull bigger audiences. There are lots of differences... The main ones being: in league you only have 6 tackles, in union you must release the ball in each tackle, in league the scrums are not contested and so many more. Watch a few games of each and you'll soon pick up on how different they really are.
