How To Watch Rugby World Cup 2011 Free?

How do I watch the 2011 Rugby World Cup in the U.S.?

  • I'm an american Rugby player and am looking forward to the world cup next year. However, I doubt ESPN will even mention it, even though the U.S. is competing. I'd like to watch the games live, even if it means at 2 am for the time difference. I don't have satellite, just basic cable and the internet

  • Answer:

NBC Sports and Universal Sports have the broadcasting rights and will be broadcasting the final and 'other key matches,' apparently. They'll also probably stream matches.

NBC/Universal Sports have the US rights for 2011 and 2015: http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/mediazone/news/newsid=2039046.html#rugby+world+cup+make+us+network+tv+debut The x-factor is if their acquisition by Comcast is finalised by then. The rightsholders, in previous years, have tried to sell an online package with the World Feed; stay tuned on that one. The online rights are also owned by NBC/Universal; check closer to the event to see if they are going to sell/air free games online live/delay. The final will be on free-to-air television in America which hasn't happened previously. Versus/Comcast had the 2007 rights. If you play for a club, hopefully your club can secure viewing parties at a local pub for the matches. ESPN won't mention/air sports they don't own the rights for...it's just the way it is.
