51 yard place kick, 30-35 drop kick for high school rugby is that good?
-
Hey there, I play rugby since like 2 years. Last year the coach made me play wing/flanker and NEVER let me kick. 3 weeks ago our fullback got injured, he told me since i can tackle i'm starting fullback. At the try conversion it was from the far left side corner and NOBODY knew how to kick it, i go to him and tell him I CAN kick it... he doesn't trust me but let's me try. I make the kick. 5 minutes after we are 32 yards out for a try and we are 7-7. At the lineout i tell the scummy to pass me the ball that i would drop kick it. Guess what happens? (might be luck idk) but i made it. At the end of the game the coach tells me i should play fullback cuz i had a really good game (it felt awesome making those kicks). So i decided to try my kicks and my average kick is 45-48 yards. My longest so far was a 52 yard from place, and a 35 drop kick. Is that good? How can i improve my distance to reach around 40 yards drop and 60 on place kick. Like i wanna be able to kick it from midfield and make it on a place kick. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

Answer:
I think you are being a a little unrealistic -- or your pitch markinigs are way off. Professional place kickers hesitate at fifty metres, and only a few can make it at all. I have seen a sixty metre kick made (it was François Steyn in last year's tri-nations), but even he can't do it reliably. And 35 metres for a drop goal -- while you are under pressure -- is pretty good. Even at the professional level, 40 metres is unlikely to even be attempted unless it was a last second kick with the game on the line. Forget about tips from rugby pros -- maybe you should be giving them lessons?

Move to high altitude When you say your longest kick is 52 metres, do you mean you can kick so it goes 52 metres, or you can kick a goal from 52 metres, if you are kicking goals from over half way, you are doing very well. As mentioned above, the top international kickers are reaching their limit at that distance.
you shouldn't play flanker. You don't know a thing about what you're talking about & are FULL OF poop.

Wow thats a remarkable effort especially when your still in High School. Most International kickers can kick from that position though, so you have pretty much reached international status when it comes to kicking. Only a few that I have seen that can do that and i believe there are more but the ones i know that are international players are Francois Steyn(South Africa), Jonny Wilkinson(England), Morne Steyn(South Africa), Dan Carter(New Zealand), Matt Giteau(can kick 50+ meters on rare occasions, Australia) and Felipe Contepomi(Argentina).
