GIRLS AND THEIR SPORTS? is there really only certain games girls should play?
-
hi right lets get straight to th point, i like sports: horse riding, baseball, cricket, basket ball, handball, boxing, kick boxing and rugby. I box against a lot of males and i also play rugby against the lads. I have been told by so many girls to grow up or it is to dangerous, but i also get a beating from the lads after a while because they treat me like i am breakable at first until i show them up. Do the sports i play give of a perception of me as a tomboy or even a lesbian because i am strong enough to fight back... because if i say what sports i play they instantly go ooh you a lesbian? im 16, about 5'3 , weigh about 7 and a half stone and my guy mates think i'm good looking and shouldn't play these sports. so basically why do certain sports make people decide on your sexuality? Is it safe for me to play these sports against boys after all what damage could they do that a female team couldn't? and why cant you be pretty and play sports with a bit more contact and umph behind em?

Answer:
Awesome! I think it's great you play with the guys. I do think (sorry) but as you get older the guys are going to dwarf you in size, and you might have to start playing with chicks just due to sheer size. At least with kickboxing and rugby. I am a woman rug player, and am actually quite a bit bigger than you (and older), and I know that even though I am pretty tough, Those guys my age (therefore in my league) caould murder me, even by accident. What damage they could do will just come from size and body make-up. As for the pretty and play sports, it seems to be thought of that way over where you are way more than elsewhere. I live in Canada, and know almost no ruggers who are lesbians, and there are tons of pretty ordinary girls. And women's rugby is really big here too. Anyways, stick with it and keep beating up those boys, but make smart decisions, and you'll know when to stop maybe you could play with some older girls, or try travelling and playing. tell people who think you're a lesbian to F off, then beat them up (ha ha, kidding)

I think it depends on what damage you want. I've played rugby and watched both male and female. Guys might hit harder, but from a girl they might also take it personal so they might want to retaliate and do it worse than a girl. But girls are also more prone to hair pulling, scratching and I think tend to be more mean. And I do not think your sexuality should matter in what sport you play; however, for safety purposes, you may want to reconsider who you play with. You should play against people with relatively the same height and about a respectable weight. Meaning dont play with 200 pound men. But if they are lighter, go for it! And show em up too.

It will only bother you if you matter bout it... If you are sure that its this sport you wanna play, go deeper. *** the others and what they thinking bout ya.

Of course not. i do whateverthe fck i want
you don't know me
from the replies and your post i'm pretty glad to see that i'm not the only one having such problems. and i do agree with most of them that you should not bother so much about what others think. as long as you enjoy it and hey if you can even show those guys what we're capable of - why not? just becareful cause boys do tend to play rougher and injuries in any type of sport is common. do remember to take good care of yourself during play. as for being taken as a lesbian, it happens really often. its just a stigma that some people have about girls who are out there with the boys, don't wear skirts and make up as often as they 'should'. its irritating. but yeah, i firmly believe that it is possible to be pretty and do sports. i'm all for it. keep going and stay strong!

If you want to stick with stereotypes then sure yeah don't play them sports. But come on are you really going to listen to the people who tell you not to play? Typically they are men's sports because they are rougher and usually men are stronger as well as more competitive. However, this does not mean that girls should not play these sports too. I think if you can do it, why the hell not! Girls have the same right to do anything a man can and i think it's pretty liberating if you could kick a guys butt in the field or in a ring :). I sure as hell wish i hadn't stopped some of the sports i used to play! Don't listen to what other people think and just enjoy it while you can.
