Answer:
You have not told us anything about your age, what rugby training is available to you, or your experience level. As a basis for answers, I will assume that you are in high school, that there is a school or properly supervised youth team available, and that you have no prior experience. 1. Most important: if you are in high school, you absolutely should *not* use any supplement without proper supervision from a doctor or professional nutritionist. (In fact, you should not play rugby without a thorough physical exam. ) Assuming you are in the general range of ages 14-17, good basic nutrition, properly eaten at regular meals, and with rigorous attention to things like proper hydration, should be all that you require. Supplements will NOT make you grow faster. Unless you are taking them under direction, there are possible complications with your natural development, or certainly with medications you may be taking or be asked to take in the future. Nobody on Yahoo 7 knows anything about your medical status, so they cannot say anything meaningful about whether supplment X does or does not cause complications that you should consider deeply. 2. Assuming I'm more or less right about your age, there is nothing in the least off about 170 cm. For a high-school rugby player, espcially a beginning-level one, your height is entirley satisfactory at hooker, scrum-half, or most of the backs. Maybe at Prop, too, depending on your overall staure. Both hooker and scrum-half are highly technical specialist positions - learn to play them and you will be welcome on every rugby team you ever encounter. Assuming you are something like 14-15, what your final adult stature will be is very hard to predict, so don't worry about it. 3. The main feature of rugby is its highly aerobic nature. As a high-school rugby player, you will run 5-6 miles in a full game. The most important physical exercise for any rugby player is running. Mix long distances with interval-training, including such desparate exercises as stairs (or sand hills if you are lucky enough to live near the beach). Again, if you are < 17, gym training is something that should be done - if at all - under very careful adult supervision. And the "adults" are not the gym monkeys at your local gym - I mean professionally credentialed supervisors who can train you to use the equipment safely and effectively and who will supervise your progress. If you use gym equipment improperly at what I take to be your age, you risk serious and potentially debilitating injuries. Best approach - and this doesn't apply only to high-school aged players: Get your running and aerobic fitness up to the level that will impress the coaches when training starts. Present yourself to the coaching staff, maybe even in advance of training, and talk with them about what sorts of positions you might consider, especially in light of what the team needs. Then put in the hard yards at training, both with respect to conditioning, but also at learning basic skills. Your body will catch up - and there's not really much that an adolescent can do to change that pace, short of *very* dangeorus performance-enhancing chemicals. Good luck and have fun.
