When is usually Rugby Union season started?

Whats the diffrence between rugby union and rugby league?

  • I have just started following the rugby world cup and would like to now the diffrence between rugby union and rugby league. (In lay-mens terms please I dont want to be baffled so as it puts me off the game)

    rugby union is played by 15 players on each team whereas rugby league is played by 13 players. in rugby league the rules are a bit different compared to union. for e.g....a team only gets 6 chances when the player is tackled to continue playing, after they have used up those 6 chances then they have to turn the ball over to the opposition. thats why if u have ever watched this game then you would notice that they usually kick the ball after the fifth tackle. if you are tackled to the ground, meaning there is no going forward. then the opponents release u and u have to play the ball again. this will continue 6 times. its a little bit less dangeruos and strenous compared to union....but you have to be very skillful to play this game. i hope i cleared even a little bit of curiosity.

you need to watch both codes of rugby to see that league is far better game than union. on sat 29-9-07 watch hull v wigan on sky sports at 6-30 pm then in a couple of weeks it is the grand final at old trafford . this will be a great game if you like blood &guts

Union is by far the better game.Union is popular all over the world, only a few countries play league.There are 15 players in union, 13 in league (no flankers).The scoring is different eg a try = 5pts (union) and 3 pts (league), drop goal =3pts (union), 1 pt (league). Scrums in union are contested, they are a farce in league. Union has rucks, mauls and line outs and you can 'steal' the ball from an opponent. In league if you are tackled, you give a 'dinky' back-heel to a team mate, no-one can wrestle the ball off you. After 6 tackles you have to give the ball away..strange! Watch the proper (Union) world cup, then watch that 'tick-rugby league...you'll see why Union is considered the better game by the majority of people.

Hull vs Wigan???? Manly vs Melbourne!!! NRL Grand Final. League has harder hits, & is a lot faster (depending on who is playing). Union has 15 players + 7 subs, & a player can only be sub off once. League has 13 players + 4 subs?? and the team has 12 interchanges. Alot of the rules are different.
