All Blacks Rugby Uniform?

  • There are 2 different uniforms the all blacks wear, the all black and the grey uniform... Ok, I know this might be stupid but when the all blacks played the french team in the world cup they were wearing the grey uniform! Myself, I "hate" the grey uniform! And what made it worse is, we "lost" the game while wearing the grey uniform! Im not saying that the grey uniform is the reason for the lost.. My nan use to tell me that the black uniform should be worn in every international game cause thats why the NZ rugby team is called (all black) but what are your thoughts on there uniform..

    F1 was right in that if both teams #1 strip is very similar and could cause confusion, one of the teams has to wear thier away strip. unfortunately the french werent having any of this and its believed they changed to the dark blue in case they met up (a good psychological ploywhich worked). It then comes down to a coin toss to see who wears the home strip which as we know Darren Shand hasnt had much luck with. During the Grand Slam match with Scotland, the scottish could have made the ABs wear thier grey jerseys but instead chose to wear thier own away gear at home. The ugly grey will be gone next year as Adidas is designing new jerseys for the All Blacks, home and away. Bit of trivia though, on New Zealands first ever european tour they did not have a team name, but a reporter said thier style of play was like they were "All Backs" the way they would move the ball. This misheard statement along with thier black jersey and we have the ALL BLACKS.

They do wear the black jersey on every international game as far as the game allows it. If they are drawn as the away team, and the other teams jersey is a very similar colour their jersey must be changed. No way round it really, and they shouldnt be giving exceptions to a bunch of chokers :P ;) Anyway, the grey jersey looks terrible, if they are going to have an away jersey they shouldnt make it look as if the home jersey has been put in the wash to many times, they'd nearly be better off in pink.

I agree,the All Blacks should always wear black except when it clashes with the other nations uniforms.However in last years world cup we saw Scotland come out with their alternate strip even though the All Blacks had agreed to wear their grey strip,which saw 30 guys on the field wearing identicle grey strips.The AB's should have come out in black for the 2nd half.Maybe our alternate strip should be black and white like the Barbarians what do you think?

Kia Ora I totally agree the black uniform of the all blacks is there signature. Unfortunately when they play a host country, who also were a dark colored uniform as the french. They then opt to wear the second choice of uniform which is the gray.

There was actually a conspiracy theory floating around after the All Blacks lost to France in the 2007 World Cup. Alledgedly, France went away from their traditional blue jersey to a darker blue that was much closer to the black of New Zealand in the hope that if they met the All Blacks along their World Cup journey then the All Blacks would have to revert to an alternative strip, thus deal them a psychological blow. Fact or ficton?

the optional uniform used to be white jersey, black collar, black fern with black shorts, it somehow seemed a bit more imposing than the grey kit they have employed these days. There could be something in the grey colour diminishing their "presence" on the field, who knows. Someone should look up the stats on win/loss in certain kit?

Well, they need a alternate kit cause what if the other team wore black, they could not tell the difference. And the uniforms are kind of cool, even though they are not tradition.

i was wondering why they had to wear grey and not the white jersery. I mean, they wear white when they play home games v Scotland.

i believe that just as long as there is a little presentation of black in the grey uniform ummmm then its all goods....
