What do you think of the current All Blacks Squad?

Do you think Richard Kahui will be part of the All Blacks RWC squad?

  • He's one of my favourite players and I would love to see him play in the world cup :)

  • Answer:

Richard Kahui's issue, fundamentally (I'm a decades-long Waikato supporter), is that he is injury prone. Some blokes are and others aren't - that's true across sports. He's an exceptionally talented rugby player - big, fast and very technical, and entirely committed on attack and defense, But he tends to come out on the injured list too often to maintain really long-term continuity of play. A contrasting sort, non-injury prone, would be Conrad Smith (one of Kahui's principal competitors for the # 13 jumper, Robbie Fruean being the other, at least imo). Kahui can (and has, including for the ABs) played at wing, which might help his health, but NZ already has more wingers than you can shake a stick at, and he does not stand out at wing in that group. I reckon, if he's fit, he'll have the phone nearby for a possible call-up in case of injury problems, but will not be part of the initially named squad. Bit of a pity, actually. Mark L.

Yes, Kahui and Smith will be the Centres for the Rugby World Cup. Nonu and Smith will be the most likely starters, and unfortunately Sonny Bill Williams will make the squad too and make us lose the World Cup. My Backline would be: Piri Weepu, Daniel Carter, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Ma'a Nonu, Conrad Smith (possibly Kahui because he is like Smith, but smith has all the exp with Nonu with Wellington and Hurricanes), Cory Jane, Malili Muliaina.

He does seem to be injury prone in recent seasons but when he is playing he looks good enough to be in the ABs squad. Whether he will be fit/ form in time for the RWC--- I think this will not be enough to convince the AB selectors to choose him. They have made up their minds that SBW is the man they want along with Nonu and Smith. SBW is a humble man and has a genuine desire to succeed but I have pointed out before that he lacks that rugby nous to be a true International player - just my opinion.

I would love to say yes because I like him as a player but unfortunatley I don't think so. He's way too injury prone. It'll be a tough call for Graham Henry choosing his world cup team because there are so many talented players at every position. My starting backline would be: Weepu Carter Sivivatu Nonu Smith Jane Muilaina/ Toeava (if he's fit)
