What position is best to play in rugby league as a beginner?

What position should i play in Rugby League?

  • I really need some help on this one because i am not sure at all. I am a 13 year old boy who is 5''5 round about 8 stone and have had experience on the wing. I didn't like playing on the wing i would like to play in a different position. I can catch a ball well and i am fast and can step well. I can also pass the ball well both left and right and i can kick well to my Friends said i was really good at kicking with my accuracy and power. I am a good tackler as well but i don't know what position to play any help?

  • Answer:

If you can kick well with both feet and also pass well on both sides, you should be trying to get half-back or 5/8th. These positions are highly sought after though. Talk to your coach. With your speed,. you may only be placed on the wing, as wingers need to be fast.

Yeah, i reckon Flanker too, League teams are alway short of two Flankers.....you sound like a good open sider to me.

Don't worry I am a 14 year old prop and this is the best advice anybody will give you here. 1) because we on yahoo answers can't see you play or anything we couldn't grade you on your ability so all bets are out the window. If I was betting though I would say flanker. But your coach will give you a position based on what he thinks your ability is so ask him. At our age we cannot be picky about positions (if it was up to me I would be full back :) ) I have seen a lot of times when a player has decided his position and he and the coach have argued and he has got thrown out of the team. Ask your coach

Well just judging from the aforementioned qualities, I'd say a back and not forward, even if you're good at tackling...backs tackle too. The backs are the kickers, they should have great handling skills and be quick and agile. Which according to what you've said, you are. I don't like playing wing either. I was extremely happy playing flyhalf. It's like being the leader of the backs, you call the shots. I was also the kicker, and the quickest on the team. So it seems you'd fit the position well. Try it out.
