What does a wing do in rugby?

What should i do on the wing in rugby?

  • i play on the wing normaly blind side. i know how to play it but cud sum1 tell me some other things to do that are good and what the wing doesnt normally do

  • Answer:

Your first priority is your job, the Wing. You said you know your job, which always comes first no matter what your team mate has asked of you. But given that you haven’t elaborated on what they have asked of you and your comment of it being good, they may be asking you to lift your work load. Communication is a good thing and it’s ok to be told, but remember your job first as it won’t be the other person will be to blame if it all goes wrong. Best of Luck... (If you could elaborate more on what they are asking you to do, we may be able to help you more in detail)

if your team has a really good rush going, go across the feild to get in the line... you are then an extra option so you might also get a try... make sure you can hustle back to your spot though... i have got caught a few times doing that and then not getting back fast enough so it resulted in a try.

Make open field tackles

i converted to wing last season stay opposite your man dont miss tackles dont drift inwards and dont leave gaps also wen the oposition have the ball inside thier own 22 and look like they they are going to kick for touch step back about 5-10 meters from ur teams line of defence

If you are on the blind side of play and you see or there is a move which involves the full back running into the line, than it is your job to drop back and cover his position in case of a break down and the ball is kicked down your end. if you are on the the open side and your centre is tackled and put to ground it is your job as the closest to go in and support and protect the the ball, you can also receive the ball from the fly half running either inside or outside from the blind side from a set piece ie scrum all these things must be practiced at training and be in the team plan. The modern winger these days go looking for work not just stand there like the old days waiting for the ball to come to them they go looking if you watch the all black wingers they will pop up all over the field. But, before you can do any of these things it must be in the team plan and your team mates must be aware that this is part of team strategy so that there is someone to cover your position usually one of the the forwards or even the backs. Also on defence the 2 wingers cover the fullback. If the opposition kick the ball to your fullback, the 2 wingers drop back to link with the fullback and counter attack they form a new line. It has been well documented that the Ab's back 3 are very dangerous if you kick the ball to them they will run it back at you and a lot of trys have been scored this way. but all these things must be practiced at training and be in the game plan. So yes there are a lot of ways you can improve but there needs to be practice and communication with all players around you or in the team. Its a team game and everyone must know their part within the team. hope this helps.

Score Tries!! A lot will depend on how well your forwards win the ball and your backline distributes it!! If ya gettin no Ball as is often the with wingers case you gotta go lookin for it. Run good lines, e.g Inside-cut, Straight, hopefully your centre can put you outside your opposite.

Once you have possesion of the ball, avoid being taken into touch. Look for gaps. If you make a break, sprint for it! The adrenaline will do it's job and you should be able to sprint the whole way :D Enjoy it and good luck.

Always stay on our opposite number's inside shoulder, this forces him away from his support and further towards the touch line. This makes it easier to force a turnover, and less likely that an overlap will occur. Just so long as you have good insides that is. In attack, get deep and prepare to support a blindside forward run, or else drop into the back line and support play there. Off a scrum, work with the blindside flanker and number eight to force the turnover, keep plenty of pressure on.

blindside wing always stay on the outside of your man when Dn up always chase every kick through even if it looks like going out you just never know sometimes just keep your self busy come in off your wing into the attackline 11vens get bored just standing out there oh yeah heres another one if your on attack and you dont see the fullback at the back if its just space yell for the kick
