Rugby union fans, could you support a rugby league team?
-
The Celtic Crusaders have just been granted entry to rugby league's Super League. I understand most of their supporters are former fans of the now defunct Warriors union team. If, in a worst-case scenarion, your favourite rugby union club went bankrupt but rose again as a rugby league team would you go to support them?

Answer:
Mate, i'm a SPORTS FAN! I watch pretty much all sport, I don't have tunnel vision, i'm not biased, I LOVE SPORT. I'm a passionate rugby supporter, just as i'm a passionate league supporter. So...yes I would. P.S Rugby guys that slag league, and league guys that slag rugby are all dickheads!

I am a keen rugby fan and ex player. I did support Norths in the league (played junior union and league for North Sydney and Northern Subs). League's problems started when limited tackle football was introduced. The aim of this change was to limit St George's premiership run. Similarly, field goals were changed because of a particular field goal exponent with Souths. Clubs were dropped without any heed of tradition or history. League does not appear to want to improve the lot of the game, only its local competitions - Super League and NRL. Rugby has had many changes but these have been positive changes, to improve the game not to pull down or inhibit teams or players. Pluses see the 6 Nations, Tri Nations Pan Pacific and Churchill Competitions. No, I could not support a league team now.

No. Never. The exodus during the eighties and 90's put welsh rugby in the gutter. With the Thatcher government closing everything in sight and putting everyone on the dole...and all our best and average players going oop north...causing the Welsh national team to have a pasting year after year and suffer humiliation after humiliation..., the whole thing was frankly about as depressing as anyone could handle.. Some even say that the English Rugby Union were in cohoots with their rugby league counterparts to make this happen.. Rugby league will always be associated with and as welcome as thatcherism in Wales..

I prefer Union having played it at school, university and beyond however because I originate from NSW it is hard to avoid League. I gravitated to North Sydney as school kid but when they were skewered as a result of some really crappy League management I just forgot about League. Nowadays I just keep a casual eye on South Sydney. Mind you, watching League always gives a clue as to who is going to be pinched by the ARU or now head overseas to France and go for the big bucks.

Most definately. I support Bedford Blues in the English First Division but I am also an avid Super League fan. I would rather watch Super League on TV than Guinness Premiership. I find League to be a better all round game to watch if it's not at international level or played at amateur level. I find the NRL and Super League much more exciting than Super 14 and GP.

This is a really good question. It's happend to one of my friends Rugby Union team. But to answer the question you'd depend on the team and how much you love supporting them. If it was the All Blacks or any of their NZ Super 14 teams sure i would. But the smaller teams I'd have minimum interest. So it just depends on how often you support them or if they had the same players from the latter code.

I would....makes sense to me...would be the same clubrooms...same supporters....same social circles....still the same family of friends & chance to still get together for a pint of lager & a packet of crisps. Who knows you may make some new friends. I support Union & League makes me a more balanced supporter I think.....Each to there own aye

Definitly if the All Blacks for some reason ceased to exist I'd be happy as to support the warriors or the kiwi league team. I'd love to see All blacks in the Kiwi league team, then we could dominate two sports

i tried to follow league but I couln't get into it. I find it strange how you have to give the ball away after 6 tackles. And you can't rip the ball off the opposing player.
