What is a proper diet for a teenage-vegetarian rugby player?

What is a good diet for a rugby player?

  • I'm in college, 210, I play hooker, and we have practices tuesday and thursday, and team runs on mondays and wednesdays, where we run a mile some sprints and then some 7's touch(we are a 15's team though). i also try to get as much weightlifting in as possible but my schedule is pretty hectic balancing school and rugby(obviously school coming first).

  • Answer:

So typical diet would be for a rugby player is Breakfast - Porridge or Cereal Lunch - Sandwich e.g filling would be cheese, ham, chicken or turkey Dinner - Steak or Chicken breast or fish with boiled potatoes and veg Drinks - Plenty of water, protein shakes are good and apprently milk (red top) is actually good for recovery. Snacks - mixed nuts and seeds are good, raw carrot is also quite good. Obviously if you have a night out with mates, advised you dont drink too much and if you are tempted by foods with content that is high in fat, you only do this once or twice a month max, so your body isnt effected to much. good luck and hope this helps.

Id say low fat, firstly and also low sugar- empty calories. You want to eat carbs about 2-3 hours before training, but not for tea. Then eat protein after games or workouts. Its also not all about diet. make sure that you also have a cold shower after you train, it repairs tears in your muscles, which then contributes to a growth in size and strength You dont want too much protein, it will turn in to fat, just eat after exercise or weights

Protein is kep for building muscle, if you feel you need it ye can take protein shakes or protein powder if you want to builk up, i work out/ train as much as you and the brilliant thing is you are burning so many calories you can eat and eat and eat, so my recomended diet... Protein shake when you wake up Protein shake before you workout Protein shake Before you go to sleep Add Protein power to your water you drink while training And eat meat every meal Steak, Pork, Lamb etc.
