Why do hockey players hate figure skaters?

  • i used to play hockey and now i do competitive figure skating. when i tell male hockey players this they love it, they say that thats great bla bla, but when i tell female hockey players they look at me like im the plague. why is it that female hockey players hate figure skaters? when i played hockey i didnt hate figure skaters.

  • Answer:

Cause you take up ice time and it's a waste of such amazing skating ability (at least from our perspective). but then again i think everything non hockey related is a waste

i don't think it's matter of hating but midunderstanding. i used to believe it wasn't a sport or that it was but it was a girly girl sport that degraded women. they wore little outfits and jumped through the air. i just didn't think it was exciting or difficult. i have come to realize that figure skating is the very difficult and painful. not only does it take time and dedication you have to control your body while spinning though the air and pray you don't land wrong and screw up your leg or something. i have much respect for the sport and the individuals who compete in it.

i assume that guys find it sexy and the girls are jealous, cause they know that they could never do what you can do.

My wife and I like to watch it. We like to watch how talented the skaters are.

Contrary to popular belief, competition is not a macho, male concept. Women are the most competitive creatures that ever walked the earth, and it's just another form of competition, especially when it comes to impressing the opposite gender. Female figure skaters show not only skating skills, and ability, but display a lot of their feminine attributes by the attire they wear on the ice. Name one female hockey player who shows their feminine side while covered from head to foot in 20-30 lbs of hockey gear. The guys can't admire what they can't see. When women play hockey, they are seen by guys as hockey players, period. When guys see female figure skaters in skin tight, short skirted costumes that emphasize the female shape, well, you figure it out.

I think this falls more under psychology than hockey. lol It has something to do with jealousy, if I remember correctly back to my psych courses. Try posting this question there; you'll probably get better answers. Personally, I don't have a problem with figure skaters...

Cause these are the kids whose as-ses we kicked at recess. Once you understand how incredibly, astronomically, pathetically dorky it is…. It’s really not hard to understand.

I am a very feminine female hockey player, and I don't hate figure skaters, I just hate the way their toe picks mess up the ice

Alot of female hockey players, ok, I have to be careful how I say this, alot of female hockey players aren't all that feminine. I am not saying all are, because I know alot of very girly female hockey players, but I know alot more ones that aren't girly AT ALL. I think they think of Figure Skating as a girly sport, and that is why they don't like it. I know alot of pro hockey players marry figure skaters, so it isn't that all hockey players don't like figure skaters, I guess you just talked to to wrong people. I play hockey, and I see figure skating as a completely different sport, although it is on ice, the style is very different than hockey, in the way you skate. I have watch figure skaters alot over the past 12+ years, before practices, or while I wait at the rink, and I see why girls would like it, it is like dancing almost, but with more excitement. I don't think I would be able to be friends with a guy that did it, but that just goes back to what I said about the girls that see you and don't like you, it is like me seeing a guy figure skater, I don't think I would like him, because he is doing a sport that is girly, even if he may love it.

I will tell you why, but before i do, please acknowledge that i know figure skating isnt all that easy because any type of ice skating takes some talent. Any ways, here is why: To prepare for figure skating, you put on a little dress thing that shows your butt cheeks, put on make-up and do your hair, you know, make sure you look nice and pretty for the judges. For hockey, you put on this smelly gear. Although the smell may not be so pleasant it is proof of hard work. Remember it isnt too easy to skate while wearing a portable saunna. Next. You ruin the ice with your toe picks. Ive tripped over so many ruts in the ice created by figure skates. Thanks. Another thing. What do you mean "how do you know your good until youve been judged?" That makes no sense. My question to you is how do you know your good until youve got 5 other players coming at you, things are moving full speed, and youre still able to succeed? Thats where the real talent comes in. Judges have different opinions. Besides that, your routines that you perform are all planned out. You know if you can do a certain trick or not, and you have the whole entire ice. In hockey NOTHING is planned out. You have no clue where your teammates will be, where the opposing teams players will be, and you have no clue who is going to get the puck. Anything can happen. Even though hockey may not require you to do spinny tricks (or wear make-up, do your hair and show your butt cheeks), it still requires you to be extremely tough for when the game gets physical, be able to skate as hard as you can and control a small puck at top speeds too while youve got defence ontop of you. And it takes more than that. You have to know where the other teams players and your teammates are at all times on the ice. Then once youve recieved and made some amazing passes, skated through the defenders, possibly deked through their legs or something, then you have a whole other challenge which requires a whole lot more quick thinking. How are you going to shoot on the net? Are you going to fake a back hand, take a fore hand shot and get it in top shelf? Or are you going to fake a slap shot, take a fore-hand shot and get it in the 5 whole? Figure skating isn't like that. You dont have to do such quick thinking, and you're not constantly being challenged by other figure skaters trying to get in your way and stop you from jumping. THAT is why hockey girls hate figure skaters. Yes yes, i know its not easy to jump in the air like that, but what makes it any harder than hockey? nothing. Hockey is so much faster and more physical than figure skating. In figure skating you're alone on the ice with nothing trying to stop you, and you always know your next move. Hockey requires a lot more than figure skating physically and mentally. Plus, when i went to go tryout for a team, there was also a figure skating tournament going on at another rink since the arena had 4 rinks. All the figure skaters were so arrogant, giving us dirty looks and getting in the way. And without the permission of the arena owner they went and set up their little figure skating stands, selling those little dresses you wear, doing each others make up and hair. I tried getting to the pro-shop to buy a new stick but im suddenly walking through what seems to be walls of hairspray and glitter, being stared at by girls too girly for the sport of hockey. Sorry to say figure skater, but hockey is so much better than figure skating. Besides if you have to be individually judged, and get all prettied up just to perform, then its not a real sport. Oh and btw sure figure skating can kill u? butin hockey there is a much higher chance considering its not only you, but many other people wearing potential knives on their feet, and constantly being knocked down by each other. Oh and by the way, umm helloo back to you, you tried making a point that hockey has no judges and that we judge the players. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. We dont judge the players! Its not like we take the time to stop and think "oh well that was a very nice slap shot by miss gomez. I give her a 10. " If we did that we'd lose the puck instantly. The reason we have no judge is because the final score, shows REAL results of who is better. So much work and determination was put into every goal scored. Oh and another thing, figure skaters get showered with flowers and chocolates even if they completely lose their competition. What happens if a team loses their tornament? They get a lecture from their coach saying how they couldve done better just to make them feel like crap, no flowers or balloons or chocolates to baby them.
