How could I set up a meeting with a professional sports player? (like St. Louis Blues player Keith Tkachuk)? How would I go about setting up a meeting with a professional sports player? My girlfriend loves St. Louis Blues player Keith Tkachuk, and jokingly said that she wanted to meet him for her birthday. Even though she was only joking about it, I would love to be able to actually do it for her. We live in St. Louis, so we could always go to a Blues game, but her birthday's in the off-season. I thought about maybe trying to get lucky and see if I could reach Tony Twist at one of his bars, and ask if maybe he could set something up, being that he use to play for the Blues, but chances of that happening are low. Any suggestions about how I could possibly set this up?

Answer:
Im actually a huge Blues fan too and if you watch their website, all the players do appearances thru the season that any fan can attend and meet their fav, even Tkachuk. Heres the team website........ www.stlblues.com Just check it out and hopefully that should help.....also just to mention the Blues have a big charity night coming up soon...tickets are kinda expensive and its formal but the money does go to their cancer resaerch fund aka the 14 fund

The only guaranteed free way to talk to an NHL player for an extended period of time would be to write a book. That usually works. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work in your case. As some previous posters stated, the player would want to be compensated, and Tkachuk's compensation for a speaking engagement is $15K (non-profit) and $50K (for profit) an appearance. I would write to Keith care of the Blues, and see if he responds. Some players are more than happy to oblige.

think you going to have to rethink this most players arent going to be sticking around in off season. try going with something saying u will have tickets to games yet to be annouced or something

In late 2002 we did a motion videoshoot w/ NHL player Jason Krog (then with the Mighty Ducks)... we had to pay him $4,500 for about 2-3 hours of his time. We were put in contact with his agent by contacting the teams front office directly. I'm guessing a player like Tkachuk would be about $20,000 for the same amount of time.
