Bring Back NorthStars Hockey Team....End Our Void.?

  • We grew up playing garage hockey with a Beaupre sprawling save near the lawn mower to reflect a Bellows slap shot taken from the blue chalk line. We played hockey at the local ice rink as our thermos of hot chocolate awaits us in the club house. We cut the ice with Neal Broten in mind, faked a tripping with Dino in mind, delivered a crunching body check like Willi Plett or Shane Churla and never tired, much like Brian Bellows or Kieth Acton. Sometimes, we dropped our gloves and put on the foil like Jack Carlson. ........... .......... ............. We went to the Civic Center and cheered on with selfless loyalty as we froze with them in the stands of green, white and gold seats. I remember seeing our breaths of frosty air as we expressed our dissatisfaction with the call or wished we had gloves to drop to help out our players we stood behind game after game, win or lose. We were there. It didnt matter how cold it was. We didnt feel it. In our minds, we were also NorthStars players. We had jerseys, custom-made hats, and pride-filled prowess that added enough body heat to make us as equal as the ones wearing ice-skates. ........... ........... .......... We had seen Herb, Glenn, and media newsman Paul Majors at the games. We were always surrounded by the elite. .......... ............ .......... An occasional wave to someone we knew in highschool, work, church, or the neighborhoods where we live. A high-five and a slap on the back to the company we brought with us as we celebrate another great score. A rush of the senses with the help of the organ player and the announcer as the crowd salutes a standing ovation. The thunder of it all with the flashing red light behind the goal, the loud horn, the cheer, the hands clapping, and fists pumping the air upwards. ......... ........... ........... The light shows, scoreboard, the press boxes, suits, advertisements, sponsors of well known businesses of this business. ........ .......... ............ But we were loyal to this business. We were there to purchase a green and gold seat. We consumed your hotdogs, nachos with cheese, malt cups, candy and sodas. We wore your jerseys even at work or to a family outing. ........... ............ .......... Then the team was moved to Dallas, Texas. Our hearts were thumped, the dagger was felt, our heros removed from us like when a close friend looks at us through the back window of the family car as we kneel at the bottom of our driveways and helplessly watch our friend move away......taken away by their family. "We'll keep in touch, I promise" is never true and the frosty air of pride and loyalty, friendship and trust, excitement and thrill..........becomes just another cold winter. ........... ............ ............ We have a void. No matter where we are, the paths we're on, the roads we took, the depths of the wells that receive our wishes........please bring back the Minnesota North Stars hockey team. We have heard many people claim that history repeats itself. And thats ok with us. ............ ............. ........... Can you imagine the catwalks connecting the Mall of America, hotels, restaurants, and Home of the North Stars?
