How To Play Happy Wheels At School?

Looking for advice on indoor roller hockey wheels.?

  • I am thinking about joining an indoor roller hockey league with a friend of mine. I usually play ice hockey, however he likes roller and I don't care what we play as long as it's hockey =p It's at a SkateSafe, where they use that blue tile as the skating surface. I weight 180lbs, the league we are joining is called a 'novice' league, the 3rd out of 4 levels they have, so the competition level is not very high. I am using a pair of Missions (stiffness rating 33 if it matters) and when I played varsity roller in high school I always had trouble stopping. I want a decent set of wheels appropriate for my weight and the surface, but shopping around has led to some intimidating results ($120 sets of wheels, for example). Just looking for some advice, keep in mind the league shouldn't be too competitive, but we will likely play more than 1 season, so I would like a set of 'decent'-ish wheels/bearings to skate with.

  • Answer:

The Labeda Gripper Wheel comes in a 4 Pack and is only $30. You're really just going to want to look for an indoor wheel that is between 76A-78A. A dual durometer wheel will be be the best, though. The core of the wheel is harder and will keep its shape with weight and the torque and all the stopping/turning on a dime you would be doing and the outside is the softer sticky material that will grip the floor. You don't want to get anything below a 76A, because anything really over 170lbs will just press down on it more and get it out of whack. Are you working with a high-low frame at all? What size wheels do you have on your Missions now?
