Why do we have seasons?

In NHL 12 Be a Pro mode, why am I STILL stuck on the team that drafted me after 3 full seasons?

  • I started out in the WHL on the Tri-City Americans as a 17 year old. I played every game and got drafted after one year. I went 1st overall to the Florida Panthers and signed my "3-year entry level contract". I didn't want to play for them. So I simmed the preseason and got sent back to Tri-City since I was too young for the AHL. Simmed that whole season. SO THAT'S 1 SEASON OUT OF 3 I'M CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO BE WITH THE PANTHERS ORGANIZATION. I did the same thing the following season, got sent back tot he WHL again, simmed the whole thing again. THAT'S 2 SEASONS OUT OF 3 I'M CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO BE WITH THE PANTHERS ORGANIZATION. The next season, I simmed the preseason again, and since I was now old enough, got sent down to their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. THIS IS MY THIRD (and final contractual) SEASON WITH THE PANTHERS ORGANIZATION MIND YOU. So, being a "contract year," I played all the games, lead the AHL in scoring by a million bajillion, never got called up to the Panthers (super realistic), won the Calder Cup, and simmed the offseason. THREE SEASONS OVER!!!!... right? so I'm thinking I should be negotiating a new contract come August. NOPE! I'm right back where I always am in October getting the same stupid email from the coach talking about making the Panthers roster with NO MENTION of my contract being up. So i'm just stuck on the Panthers with their HORRIBLY graphically flawed jerseys no less... so my question is, WHAT THE HELL??? shouldn't I have had to negotiate a new contract before this season? and if not, why not? and when will I??? somebody help!!!

  • Answer:

To quote the current Collective Bargaining Agreement... "In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old player signs an SPC with a club buy does not play at least 10 NHL games in the first season under that SPC, the term of his SPC and the number of years in the Entry Level system shall be extended for 1 year" So in essence, the deal was extended for a year because you didn't play 11 NHL games in that first season, because you simmed. One more year and you'll be fine (at least, in theory)
