Academy schools in high school hockey?

  • I am not a fan of academy schools in high school hockey, I think it is a little unfair to public school to have to play a school that more then likely recruits kids to play for there teams even though they are not suppose too. I am from northern wisconsin and an academy won the state tournament this year (Notre Dame Academy) I cant stand the school. They had a good team and talent wise deserved to win but I bet a few players from there team were from MN and other parts of the state which to me ant fair. What do you guys think about Academy schools playing with public schools?

  • Answer:

I agree slightly. I am from Chicago and here we have all our Catholic high schools in one league, which are they top hockey schools usually, and then our public high schools in another league. Sometimes there will be a game where a public school will play a catholic school, but it wont count for wins for either team. So, in regular season, they do a good job of dividing the two. But, for state playoffs and the Blackhawk Cup, which is our state championship, they are put together to play each other.Which, more often then not, is a blow out by the private schools. They do recruit from all over like you said. Although I do know of a public school called New Treir who has shown up some catholic schools at the Blackhawk Cup.
