Should the NHL have both Canada's and United States national anthem played before the start of all NHL games?

Good to see you around Howler. Buffalo plays both the US and Canadian anthems regardless of who is playing(I think they are the only team to do that). I think it would be a good idea since the majority of the players are from the US or Canada. It would only take an extra two minutes to show respect for both countries. Why not.

I grew up listening to both at the start of every game; as stated by others, Buffalo has always played both anthems. We owe Canada for the creation and growth of hockey and for the best fans and many of the greatest players of the game, besides the fact that the NHL is a two-country league. Equal respect should be given to each country that supports the league, regardless of where the games are played or who's playing in them. Multiculturalism is cool! P.S. Good luck with finals! I only have one, thank God for small favors.

I think it would be far too time-consuming. To be completely fair, you'd have to play the American anthem, the English version of the Canadian anthem, and the French version of the Canadian anthem in honour of the Habs. In many games, two of the three would be extraneous, and would just keep us from getting to the game. Plus, I don't really want to hear the American anthem before a Leafs/Sens game, so I can imagine that Americans feel the same way about our anthem during a Panthers/Lightning game or whatever.

No, its fine how it is now, because its just an extra wasted effort if you are just doing it out of respect to begin with.

Much of the reason an allarming number of Americans can't relate to people from other countries is that they don't know much (if anything) about them, aside from MAYBE a few sports stars. J.O., that's a good point and I don't object to the host nation's anthem being sung first. But it certainly doesn't mean both can't be sung. If you do that then you should do Sweden, Russia, and all the other countries players come from.

All honestly I thought they did both always. Buffalo does both every game Glad you're back but come on how can you hate the Sun Devils FOR THE WILDCATS AZ State's generally more exciting (JD Hill in the 70's, Plummer in the 90's, Carpenter now) and just Better to watch (Even if Az State's a big party school) They're not my team (Ohio State and locally Buffalo and Syracuse to a degree) but come on dude ARIZONA. And why the vendetta w/the Sun Devils. I thought your beef was w/the Cardinals Yeah basketball has been Arizona's but AZ State's been better latley. Still Arizona's still better in basketball. Just upset #4 Gonzaga in fact today Amazing though how many insults can come from ASU. BTW the Card's pissed me off. I think it should be up to the team to decide how they want to do it. I'm fine if a team wants to play both before every game. On the other hand I don't really think they should have to.
