Can anyone recommend any good Hockey Skates?

Hockey Skates Question?

  • I played 8 years of hockey when i was little and didn't play throughout high school, and now that i am in college i am going to pick it up again and play recreational. I consider myself a excellent skater, and don't want to settle buying a cheep beginner or rec pair of skates. I was thinking i was going to buy the vapor X:30 at $180 which is an intermediate level skate. Does anyone know of a cheaper pair that is better quality or would work for me better because im not going to be playing that often. Also can anyone recommend a good stick?

  • Answer:

Bauer is a good skate - if you fit in them comfortably. I prefer CCM personally. Others like Graf or Mission ... bottom line you're best to try them on in person, see what fits both your foot and budget, frequency of play / level of competition. As for sticks, wood has better puck feel, is less expencive but many players are switching to composite, or a two-piece. (composite shaft / interchangable blade) ps: It is a bit dishonest, but when you know what you like, see if you can find the item on clearance on a site like hockeygiant, inlinewarehouse, peranis, hockeymonkey etc. Usually there isn't a major difference in performance and features within a year or two.
