How do you show your captain status while playing in an online team play game in NHL 09?

A few weeks of playing NHL 09 online team play i noticed that a player had the alternate captain A on his jersey. I have looked all over online to find out how this is done but i could not find anything. My initial thinking was that i needed to be a captain in my be a pro mode. However, i became the alternate captain and still didn't seem to have the A on my jersey when i played online. Does anybody know what to show your captain status while playing online team play on NHL 09? I saw it once so there must be a way to do it.

It's possible that players you play can see your captain status but you can't.
