Where to buy iron chains?

Would you buy a true 1 iron, or a 1 iron hybrid ?

  • I found one of each on ebay. I can get the regular traditional 1 iron, or I can get the 1 iron hybrid. The regular iron is 40' long, and the CC and loft is unknown. The hybrid is 39.5' long with a 15' loft and 75cc. I'm primarily looking to use this off the tee, so Im wondering if i may get more distance with the hybrid ? Also, the hybrid is about $5 cheaper.

  • Answer:

I think the loft of the 1-iron will be more than the 15* hybrid, maybe 16-17 degrees. Add to that the fact that the hybrid will be more forgiving and give you a higher ball flight (newer technology).....so I'd agree that you'd get more distance with the hybrid. From your question, it sounds as if your main concern is distance. If that's the case, the hybrid is the easy answer. The 1-iron would be great if you were looking for a nice controlled low shot off of the tee--maybe a club used for special holes where you would need to split a tight fairway with a lot of wind. But other than for that type of specialty shot, I'd go with the hybrid...and you'd be able to use the hybrid on your par 5 approach shots, as well as hitting out of heavy rough, and the greenside shots that Tiger mentioned above. So, the hybrid gives you more for your money, as well...

The hybrid is sooo much better, more control is the main advantage.

go with the hybrid over the iron

I would go with the hybrid. You'll probably hit them about the same, but the hybrid is more forgiving, so you'll hit it consistently better.

The hybrid is a multifunctional club. The hybrids can be used to pitch shots from the fairway right next to the green. The hybrid also hits the ball further and straighter and is a lot more forgiving than an iron. The bottom of the hybrid is also curved so, if your ball lands in a divot, it will be easier to get out. The iron has a flat bottom than will hit the top of the ball apposed the the middle of the ball.

The true 1 iron probably has a simple blade and unless your play your long irons extreamly well, it may lead to thin shots or slices. The hybird is the way to go - the forgiveness factor along will make it straighter and longer. And you can always change shafts for 30-40 bucks.

no i wouldn't. can't you just use a 5 or 3 wood? i have a friend who's good with a 1 iron, but he's a pretty good ball striker and semi-retarded!
