How can i stretch my lower back really good before i play golf?
-
I am a sophomore in high school and I play on the golf team. I also played volleyball at the beginning of the school year. Then during the middle of the season I started having frequent lower back pains. Then once I was done with volleyball the pains quit for a little while. Now i play golf and it kills me, I cant play a full 18 because it hurts so bad! Earlier today I went to the chiropractor and he told me I just really need to stretch really really good before I play at all because if i don't stretch out good it can strain it even more. So what are some ways that I can stretch out my back really good before I play?

Answer:
Mackenzie, the best way to stretch is daily Yoga. 30mins every day; download free yoga exercises and gather equipment piece by piece (mat, balance ball, medicine ball, retention straps) stay agile anyway u can....that includes: Cheer, Track, Volleyball, Gymnastics or a brisk walk around the block with your dog. Pre-golf warm up stretches for the back: Get a small weight for your club, strap it on or slide it on and take some easy swings. Lunges, twisting with hands on hips. The key to avoid injury is slow, controlled motions with minimal weight and appropriate time; warm up exercises... flexibility. Heat....and cold. Heat to relax the muscles prior to activity; cold to minimize swelling after activity. I lay on my back, get into a cannon ball and roll back and forth Lay face down spread your legs, do a push up but keep the lower part of your body touching the floor and stretch your neck and shoulder hold for 6 breaths then relax and repeat 3 times. At home use a tootsie roll shaped pillow and place it under your hips, keep your knees together and relax, make sure you do this on hard floor

I'm going to attempt to describe this lower back stretch the best way I can because I can't provide a visual. It's a yoga stretch. Lay on your side. Bring one leg to your chest and rest the bottom of your foot on your opposite thigh. Let the arm that your lying on lie straight in front of you. Reach back with your other arm and try to touch the floor with your other hand as your reaching back behind you. To accentuate the stretch look back behind you as you stretch. Turn over on do it on the other side. I do it every time before I play. I've not had any previous lower back pain in my life, but I'm 20 years older than you so I have to stretch before I do anything active or I'm going to feel it the next day.
