What golf clubs should i carry?

What clubs should I carry in my Golf Bag?

  • Hey I am about a 17 Handicap and I have only been playing for less than half a year. I'm not bragging but I am actually pretty good and am beating friends who have played before. I was actually given my clubs and it came with a Taylormade Bubble Driver 3,5,6,7,8,9,PW Titleist 731Pm Irons Cleveland 53 and 56 degree wedges Kirk Currie SanSaba Belly putter (converted to regular) I recently bought the Taylormad Burner for $120 and Added a Nike Sq 3 Wood for $60, a Tommy Armor brand new 5 Wood for $20! (last one, last years and I am a lefty) a 4i Slazenger Hybrid for $50 and a 60 degree cleveland wedge for $40 It also looks like I am getting New Maltby KE4 Irons which is 4-PW, GW so i will have too many clubs and too many wedges. And I might also get a 2i Cobra Hybrid Baffler if i dont have the 2 and 3 Irons in the new set Anyone have any suggestions on what to keep it looks like i have to get rid of one and definitely a wedge Im thinking i keep: Driver, 3, 5, 4H, 4-PW GW, 56 (SW) and Putter and get rid of Cleveland 53 and 60 and dont get the 2H..... Any other theories or Suggestions?

i agree with the 1st answerer. use irons. it's the second best after the driver. even better than the 3 and 5 wood i think. umh, my tour couch always uses his 2 iron. i asked him why.. and he said, "that's the way it should be. it's a man thing" urgh he's annoying! but i guess he's right. good luck mister!

srivats has the right approach to this... Golfers work with _their_ clubs to be able to hit the ball any distance between what their driver does on a consistent basis all the way down to the one inch tap in. Your clubs allow you to decide how to approach each shot (hopefully with more than one option.) So, as mentioned... start with your driver and take your AVERAGE drive, (not the wind-aided, downhill hit on the screws shot) and map your club and distances. Most distances will be covered by two or more clubs. EG 150y. Soft 5, regular 6, hard 7, 1/3 ground missile with the rescue, etc. Now, simply do inventory. If you can't hit the 3, take it out and put in a hybrid. If you rarely do a flop shot, don't lug the 60-degree. What is really important is this is all based on fact, reality and consistency. No ego allowed during this exercise.

It sort of depends on how you hit the ball. I myself like the cleveland wedges, but the taylormade wedges are very good too. I hope you have success in finding your wedges. As for the hybrid I definitley think you should get a cleveland 2 or 3 hybrid.

Keep the 5,6,7,8,9,PW,GW,SW for irons (even if you consider yourself a "real man" hybrid feel better for a higer handicapp anyday, 2 irons are harder to control). Driver, taylormade burner(its a wood right), Nike SQ, and the slazneger (heard its a great brand) and then the putter. Start using the irons when you seriously lower your handicapp (they are harder to control for beginners) and then start using them when you reach a 10 handicapp.

I am not sure what the real men references are all about......Paul....to deal directly with your question.....What you are asking is as personal a choice as what underwear to put on tomorrow. It all depends on your game and shot needs within that game.....answers only you can determine.

Sell all of it. Then go get fitted for a good set of clubs. After you get fitted you might save some money by going to one of these sites. tgw.com or rockbottomgolf.com

Canadian Club is a good one to carry when the going gets tough.

To the douche who said that only real men hit two irons, there are hundred of pga tour pros who don't have 2 irons and carry hybrids. I'll put money that they would wipe the floor with you, so need to shut that up cause you have no idea what your talking about Two answer your question I would remove 4 iron if your keeping the 4H only because chance are they have the same loft and you can hit the 4H a lot better with a lot more control. You'll hit the 4H farther but always choke down a little for distance control on it. That would free you up for a 60 degree which will come in handy. Definitly don't put the 53 cause your GW is probably the same loft. With this your bag would have Driver, 3 & 5 wood, 4H, 5-PW, GW, SW(56), LW (60) and putter. I wouldn't get the 2H because is like having a 3 wood in the bag. Hope this helps.

ok, i play number 1 spot for HS golf. I see people get disqualified for carrying too many clubs. Here's what I carry, keep in mind, i'm a 2 handicap, so these might not be exavt fit for you, but we'll see Driver: Taylormade Burner 09 10.5 loft, stiff (10.5 launches low with stiff shaft.) Woods: Taylormade TourBurner 3 wood only. stiff Hybrid: Taylormade TourBurner T3 (Tour Launch, low) stiff Irons: Tayormade Tour Burner 5-sw (came with 4 iron, couldnt carry it due to club limit) Wedges: Sand^^^^^^^^ Taylormade TPZ SMoke 60 degrees Putter This is the limit of clubs you carry carry (12) Just food for thought

real men use a straight up 2 iron, not that hybrid crap. Driver, 2-SW, 3 wood, putter, 60 degree. that's what i play with. that being said, every course is different. so you must play the course as it is, and not like others. some courses i don't bring my driver, some i don't bring a three wood. it all depends on the layout. if you get serious enough to start playing in tournaments and such. i'd suggest finding a course map and analyzing it and planning out your shots about two days in advance. also, if you want to use a hybrid you can, i was just joking. but i still like to stick with the real thing.
