How Much are theses Golf Irons worth?

Golfers - How to give a set of golf irons as a gift?

  • For my boyfriend's 18th birthday in December I have decided to give him a set of the best golf irons Ican find! He is left-handed, and an excellent golfer and he loves golfing in his free time. However, his family can't afford to purchase him a good set of irons so he has been using a set of women's clubs, with the exception of his driver (a big bertha). I have saved around $700 this year and I have chosen to put most of it towards this gift. So, is there a particular brand that suits leftys better? In your honest opinion, what is your preferred brand for irons (between Mizuno's, Pings, Titileist, Callaway's, Taylormade, etc)? Is there anyway to avoid having to get him fitted for the irons so that it remains a surprise? In your experience, what is the best material: graphite, steel, or hybrid? Thank you SO much!

Make sure you get a gift receipt.

my suggestion is find a birthday card with some type of golfing on it and say what you want to on the inside of the card let it say good for 1set of golf clubs of your choice up to the amount you are willing to spend.because if he is a good golfer he will probably have to demo some to find out what works best for him.go with him and participate in looking for them and when he finds the right ones then you pay for what ever it will be.i got my clubs on ebay.oringal priced around 800 for400 good luck.

get him a gift certificate to a big store like golf galaxy, golfsmith, edwin watts and let him choose the clubs...or ask if the have a full exchange policy so he has that same option. It is almost impossible that you will select the clubs that feel best for him. steel shafts for irons are waaay more common. Get graphite in hybrids fairway woods and a driver.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy from anyone posting links on this site. They sell counterfeit clubs. Be sure to buy from a reputable company like Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, etc. Here's the problem; golf clubs are extremely personal. The brands you listed are all excellent, and played by the best players in the world. In MY opinion, Callaway is inferior to the others you listed, but that's just my opinion. Someone else will tell you that Callaway makes the best clubs. If this were me, I'd go to a place like Golfsmith that has club fitters on staff and bring him there as a surprise. Tell him you need to go shop for something like clothes, and then take him to the store and tell him you're there to get him a set of irons. He'll be thrilled, and you eliminate the risk of actually buying him something he doesn't like, but uses so he doesn't hurt your feelings. It's really important that he picks the clubs. If you pick them the chances of you selecting the right ones for him are very slim.

For irons, it's all about the players preference and skills. Every brand has a different skill set for irons. There are irons made for good players, intermediate and not so good players. So the best thing to do is to ask your BF directly. What brand of iron does he like? What's his handicap? You can also buy golf clubs cheaper on ebay. I bought a set of Cobra irons for $400. That's a steal.

I suggest you give your boyfriend hybrid golf clubs. It's a mixture of different materials to come up with a general characteristic of golf clubs. The usual golf clubs are made from iron and wood while hybrid is similar to steel and titanium but it is lighter.

This is wonderful. He will appreciate this to the Nth degree. There isn't a brand that is more suitable to lefties. I'm assuming he's not scrawny so steel will do just fine for the shafts in the irons. Personally, I'm partial to Nike(my motto is, "In Nike I trust"), but I've played Mizuno before and the others you mentioned are top notch as well. Now to the bad news. Irons(golf equipment in general) are such a personal preference that you're better off just getting him a gift certificate. The fitting is important, but depending on his measurements, he may be able to buy off the rack. I can, but I'm 5'7" 170 lbs. You could take him to the store and watch his eyes light up when you tell him you have saved 700 bucks to get him some irons. Trust me he's going to love it, but he needs to go along for the ride so that it's a totally worthwhile purchase and that your money went to excellent use. Then everyone involved will be happy.
