Which Golf clubs should I use? Do you know anything about custom Hireko clubs?
-
I bought a brand new set of Orlimar golf clubs a year ago. They were my starter set for golf but I promised myself when my game improved I'd upgrade. I am now playing consistent golf under bogey. The Orlimar set came with 6-PW irons, 4th and 5th hybrid, 3 wood and Driver. I don't use the 3 wood because it's a flexible shaft and I have a very powerful swing. I have a Brand new Callaway FT-9 driver that is a couple seasons old that I use. I have a few other sets of clubs as well. Reflex irons and a brand called Merit. I think the Reflex irons are pretty decent, although I have never tried them out. They are all stiff shaft which is what I swing. My question is, are Orlimar a decent brand? Would my game improve any if I upgraded? Would I be better off using the Reflex Irons, they are in really good shape? I found a guy who tailor's custom clubs by Hireko and some other clone brands who swears by the quality of his work and he would only charge me around 250 bucks to build a set. I also found some deals through the Van's Pro shop on a few different clubs but are way more expensive return items around 450 dollars,as well as a guy selling stiff shaft Titleist 3,5 woods, 3rd and 4th hybrids, and Callaway 5-PW and SW Irons for around 250 bucks. So back to my question, what would be the best bang for my buck? Although my game has gotten pretty good, I'm not completely on the up and up with the technology of all the different golf brands. The craigslist and tailor deals are all sales final and I am just apprehensive dropping the money and finding out I like the Orlimar's better. Any advice is welcome and sorry it was so long winded I just wanted to be as detailed as possible. Thanks

Answer:
I LOVE my clubs from Hireko. I have the XF (with Quick Fit) driver, the XK 3w and XF irons. With the wife's permission, I might be swapping out my Odyssey #9 for their San Miguel putter (it was a gift from her, but if I rotate them, I might be OK). It isn't a "bang for the buck" thing... they REALLY do stack up with all the big boys. I've gamed Nike, Adams, Wilson/Staff, Callaway, Taylormade, Cleveland and Titleist gear and I STILL think Hireko's on par with all of them. Orlimar used to be a heavy-hitter on the PGA Tour, much like Ram, Spalding, Top-Flite, Strata and Lynx were. Mismanagement, selling off and other things have led to companies demises. Ever see the Bobby Jones golf club infomercials with Jesse Ortiz? His dad started Orlimar way back when. If memory serves, the dad sold his stake in Orlimar; he retired and Jesse went to Bobby Jones. They are now not a well-known brand. I have a few friends that game some of their stuff; they aren't Tour pros by any means, but they hit the ball decent for taking very few lessons and not having the time to devote to consistent practice. That said, don't just go and buy anything because I or anyone else like them. They HAVE to be the right fit for you, or else you'll be throwing your money away. For woods, get the lengths, lofts, grip size, shaft flex, face angles, swing weight and total weight fitted. For irons/wedges, look at length, grip size, shaft flex, lie angle, face progression, swing weight and total weight fitted. Regardless of what brand you choose, if you ignore that you'll be fighting the sticks, instead of working with them.

Well. Is the orlimar steel shaft. I hit bogey each hole consistently before I changed from graphite to steel, then my game improved significantly. Now I'm a 9 handicapper. Steel gives you the accuracy but u need to master them. They'll be hard at first. Good luck. Btw I think all clubs are almost the same, its how you play that matter. However technology nowadays really gives you the advantage in distance accuracy and the style you suits you. I tend to change my clubs days to days as those news clubs are attractive. I use a taylormade super burner 2.0 and I hit pretty far.
