How do you ride a wheelie on a bmx bike?

Why cant i do a wheelie on my bmx please help?

• hi im 13 and kinda skinny. i got my first bmx bike 3 days ago an 09 mirraco fivestar, and i want to learn how to wheelie before anything else (yes i mean wheelie not manual). and so far on my best one i have only gotten my tire maybe 10 inches off the ground for a split second, and the rest are just like 4 inches for the same amount of time. My dad used to ride bmx and he told me that he learned to wheelie the first day he tried which is pretty embrassing because i still can't. anyways the way he is teaching me is push down on the pedal and at the same time pull back and up on the handle bars. is that right if so please tell me what i am doing wrong because it seems like the my wheel just wont stay up or get up high enough and if its not what are you supposed to do. thank you for reading! ps i know this trick is lame but i just want to have it under my belt before i advance to harder tricks

  the trick isnt lame it just takes some time im sure ur dad got lucky but he is right on how too do it... u might be scared to hold it but u just have to face your fears. when u pull up make sure u pedal as u do that and lean back and then its all up to ur balance trust me. by the way u have a nice *** bike dog
