What is type of the road?

What type of bike should I get for winter/snow... road, MTB or hybrid?

    Here's what I (and my wife) use (or rather, what we ended up with currently): - MTB frame, hardtail, hard fork - luggage rack, fenders with some additional splash protection (cut from foam mats) - SPD pedals - Shimano Alfine 11 speed internal geared hub (was fed up with derailleurs getting gummed up with snow/ice when I needed to downshift...), which required - Exzentricker adjustable bottom bracket (if you get a frame with adjustable dropouts, you can omit that) - font hub dynamo - b&m LED lighting front and rear - Weber kickstand w/ trailer hitch - spike tires (Continental for me, Schwalbe for her) - Magura hydraulic rim brakes - rust protected (Zinc plated) chain (still won't last for more than one season) If you can, get a steel frame. Aluminium is very efficiently corroded by the 'salt' that's used over here for clearing the roads. You will might need studded tires and fat tires. This probably means an MTB. They do make 700c studded, but I think you will need as much width as possible. As far as brand/model, I am not sure you want to ride your primo MTB in the snow. Since you don't need a front suspension, perhaps a light non-suspension ride? Oh, probably disk brakes are better for the wet performance.
