Snowboarding pants and helmet?

Can I use my snowboarding helmet (multipurpose) as a bike helmet? Or do bike helmets protect differently?

  • I bought a snowboarding helmet last season to protect my head against any hard blows on the snow/ice. I am getting back into casual biking this year and was wondering if I could use that helmet (http://www.redprotection.com/Default.aspx ) while biking, or if a bike helmet protects against different possible head blows. I've noticed that multipurpose helmets look very similar, so wanted to check before going out and dropping money on a bike helmet.

    Bike helmets don't protect better at all, even from one model at $30 to another at $130. They are merely more ventilated to allow better airflow around one's head. The head is generally where the most heat is lost, or in the case of enclosed helmets, retained. You'll feel cooler with a proper bike helmet, but it won't be an issue of lesser or greater protection. Odds are your snowboarding helmet will do everything you want it to do on the bike, just be heavier and hotter.

It would work fine as long as you don't mind the lack of ventilation. It would probably feel as if your head were inside a sauna.

the snobrd helmet will actually protect better but poor ventalation. and depending on model will push on the back of your neck depending on riding position. at least your smart enough to use a helmet which is more than i can say for a lot of ppl.
