Is the Trek 7.3 fine for light mountain bike riding?
-
I'm bicycle illiterate, looking for a good bike for both city and offroad (not hardcore mountain biking). I don't want a hybrid or a street bike, but I want something a little lighter than a mountain bike.

Answer:
It's a good bike for the road or rail-trails, I wouldn't go single track riding with it.

You need to really define what you call "off road." The 7.3FX is common among recreational riders & fitness riders. Some folks commute on it, and others even tour on it You could even lose your first cross race on it! It's fine for hardpack dirt, small gravel, and crushed stone. Think "roads + bike trails + maybe a bit more." It's a versatile bike, but a mountain bike it ain't.
