What is a good big comfy bike seat?

How do I get my bike seat lowered? What's that part called and how much are they aprox?

  • Like I have a mountain bike that has a jam at the bottom where the metal pole thing connected to the bike seat, it won't go lower and I want to get a shortened metal pole thing with the bike seat. Sorry I think it's called the stem, but I'm not sure. I just want my bike seat to go lower because it's ridiculously high. Aprox how much are they?

    This First the proper height of the saddle (for road riding) should be that when sitting, and your pedal is at the 6 o'clock position, your leg is just slightly bent. Any lower and you are losing pedal efficiency and depending on isolated muscle groups to do the work. You can either replace or possibly cut the existing seat stem. A new stem is an inexpensive fix. Cutting just takes a hack saw and some time. You do need to cut the stem so that you remove only the amount necessary. You need several inches left inside the seat tube for strength. But if you look down the inside of the seat tube you will probably find the 'culprit' is a pair of water bottle cage screws that keeping the stem from lowering. Just unscrew them so the stem can lower, and re-tighten them when the stem is where you want it. Soccerref

if it;s a really long seat post, is it possibly hitting the water bottle cage screw? or maybe it;s just too long - saw it off with hacksaw so it goes all the way down wle

It should be a simple adjustment. Simple to adjust - hard to explain. Take it to ANY bike shop & I'm sure they will be glad to drop the seat (saddle) down a bit for you - free. See the link below. You should have a quick release seat post clamp. Most of today's newer bikes do. Simply pull out on the lever & the seat post should move up or down to adjust. When at the proper height, squeeze the clamp back down. You want this to be as firm as possible.
