How do you ride a wheelie on a bmx bike?

Can you ride a bmx bike like a regular bike?

  • I know this sounds like a stupid question, but can you ride a BMX bike around like you would a regular bike? Like around the neighborhood, just on bike rides, etc.? I'd assume you can, but I just wasn't sure. Thanks(: I have a DK Opsis for flatland riding, if that makes any difference.

    You can try... To me, BMX bikes are low & slow. You'll use at least 3 times as much energy going 5 miles as I would on a hybrid. And I'm OLD! I have gears I can shift through with 700C tires. You have one speed with small tires. If you're not in a hurry, you can ride it anywhere you like.

For cruising around the neighborhood, sure. But for distance or speed? Not at all. The geometry and gearing are all wrong.

Most of the answers above hold some truth. As a Flatland rider myself, I am suggesting you drop the psi in your tyres to around 65-75 when ur just cruising around, and up it to around the 100psi mark when ur doing Flatland. Cruising on hard tyres is not comfortable, and flatland on soft tyres is not recommended. Check the psi rating on your tyres, first. The stock tyres that come on the Opsis complete are only rated to about 80psi, I think. Do urself a favour and get some Odyssey Frequency-G tyres from www.flatlandfuel.com They're rated to 100psi, but u can get 110 psi in them eaisly. It'll make ur flatland sessions feel a LOT smoother :)

Yes you can, I would guess 75% of BMX out there never do any extreme jumping, just riding around and going to school. You wouldn't want to take it for long rides or to go fast anywhere.

Yes, it'll be fine for short distances. BMX's are actually pretty good for riding around the streets but they're hopeless if you need to ride for miles.
