Can you lose weight riding a bicycle and if so, what kind of bicycle would I need?
-
I have a bad back and can no longer walk as I use to. Therefore, I thought perhaps I could ride a bicycle. My question is, can I lose weight riding and if so, what kind of bicycle would I need?

Answer:
Riding a bike is an excellent form of exercise and any two-wheel bicycle should do the trick. Like swimming, most of your muscles come into play. Perhaps it will strengthen your back to the point where you can go back to walking. Any form of exercise will help you to lose weight.

Any bicycle will do, though you will want to go to a bike shop and find the one that will fit you most comfortably with your back issues. The next step is to track all the calories you eat and burn. I recommend MyFitnessPal because it's what I used and it worked well for me. You sign up for a calorie tracker and they will help you determine your daily calorie goals as well as track the food you eat. If you hit your target every day you will lose weight. Cycling is a great weight to get your heart pumping and burn calories. Just make sure you get one that fits properly, especially if you have back issues. Make sure the bike shop is aware of this and your goal to lose weight when they are helping you pick out a bike and fitting you to it. Good luck!

As you could never burn off enough calories exercising to make up for even moderate overeating reducing your caloric intake is the primary means to losing weight. But exercise is vital for improving your overall health and well being and bicycling is a great way to get out, have fun, and feel alive again. As for what kind of bicycle you need, it depends on your interests. I started out as a backpacker and hiker so it was only natural for me to get into mountain biking. The only downside is that I have to load up my bike and drive to the trailhead, or ride my mountain bike across town to the closest park, and back. If you just want to ride out your front door and stick to the streets then a road bike will probably suit you best. Another type of bicycle you probably won't be interested in are cruiser bikes, which are fun, but can be heavy, and aren't good for speed, long rides, or hills.

any bike works though some go faster than others and there are different kinds of comfort a short distance comfortable bike [cruiser] will not be as good as a road bike for long distance also it;s good to have a reliable bike breakdowns and half-working stuff is no fun you need to ride a LOT to lose weight 114 miles per pound road bike or hybrid wle
