What is the best mountain bike I can get for around 500$?

    Even though i think that Trek is an overrated brand, you cant beat the value of their lower price range bikes. Go for the Trek 4300 disc model. This is a great bike for the price, plus if you have any problems,Trek is great about fixing them. If your asking about the difference in hard tail and full suspension, you probably don't need full suspension. For 500 dollars you can not get a good quality bike that is going to last. Plus if you planning on doing any trail ridding, I dont recommend a full suspension bike. They are much heavier and the rear shock dampens your up hill pedaling, unless you go with a expensive x-c model ranging from 1500-5000. If you dont want to go with Trek, Specialized brand also makes a good bike in your price range. The Hardrock and Rockhopper models are right up your alley all for around 500 dollars. Disc brakes are not always necessary either, most x-c riders ride with rim breaks due to the fact that they are lighter, and easier to service.
