Folding or normal bike?

Is a folding bike much slower in speed than a mountain bike ?

  • Just thinking to buy a folding bike because I can carry it around public transport for long distances. But I want to know if the speed is much slower, for example if I want to ride 6 miles, does it make a big difference between a mountain bike and a folding bike ?

  • Answer:

if it doesn;t have the right gears [or just one] it will be a lot slower and less efficient also the tiny wheels soak power and the cheap ones are heavy too wle

Depends on the folding bike. Some low quality folders are very slow and hard work to ride. High quality ones are light and fairly fast, but they cost more than a conventional bike of similar quality. In addition, cheap folding bikes are quite heavy and cumbersome to carry onto public transportation. All this depends on how much you think you want to spend. Inexpensive bikes of any type are a chore to ride, heavy and unresponsive.

A good folding bike will be about the same speed if not faster. http://www.bikefriday.com/
