How much is a good Hybrid Bike?

How much is a good road bike?

  • So i got like a mountain bike...and i ride on the road ALOT like everyday...and I see these cyclists..with super thin/light bikes which I think are road bikes..just zoom past me...even ppl who are biger and fatter than me do on those bikes....So how much would one of those bikes cost?...it would save me so much energy and time if I got one..THANKS

  • Answer:

Average IF you know hot to 'spin' it will be 5 or more mph faster. If you do not know, it may not make that much difference to you. You can get an older quality bike in the $500 range, a new bike ... I haven;t looked at for years.... probably an entry level bike in the $700 range. If you do niot know how to 'spin' ask on this site. Then practice it on your mtn bike. That alone will speed up your cycling by 3 to 5 mph.! Soccerref

Road bikes are very efficient and a lot faster then a mountain bike on the road. A entry level bike from a shop will be around $700. If you can assemble a bike and make adjustments Bikes Direct will have an entry level for around $400. You want 24 speeds and sti shifters. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/road_bikes.htm

$500 to $5,000. Yes road bikes are faster. Lighter tires, tubes, and wheels. And no suspension sucking up your energy. Overall road bikes are much lighter and faster than a mountain bike. If I ever spring for another road bike, suspect the price tag will be in the $3,500 range. See link below. Good Luck

Look up Specialized Tarmac, I just got the cheapest version, and its all carbon fiber for about $2000, and it is the best thing ever! There's much more expensive bikes, but you can easily keep up with a top of the line bike, with just a bit of practice.

Got an R.E.I. store around? See link below. On sale & one heck-of-a-good "entry level" road bike. And yes...I'll guarantee I'm bigger & fatter than you also.

The entry level Trek 1.1 is in the $750 range... It's your standard light weight, skinny tires, gears, etc. without putting a huge dent in your budget.
