What would be a good bmx bike?
-
It all started when i got lost and discovered a dirt place to ride my mountain bike and pretty soon i was jumping it and discovered the chain kept popping off and the frame was bending. soon i decided on a bmx bike. i have looked online for a good used one but i dont know enough whats good to buy. I saw a GT Performer and i cant seem to find out more so i want to know more about GTs quality and also any other brands to recommend that i could get used for under $100. I don't need something particularly fast or light just something that is durable and has good brakes. I am 5ft tall weight 73 lbs and should be growing soon so i need something that could handle more weight that i am now.

Answer:
Well, it depends where you got your bike. Some GT Bikes are good, some are crap. For example, ANY bike from a K-Mart or Walmart is complete junk. If someone gave me a mountain bike from K-Mart, I would end up snapping it in half on my very first ride. You will be amazed at how much better a good bike feels. Most bike shop bikes, even the lower end ($$$) ones are 10X better. I would recommend getting something off of craigslist. Just be sure it is a legit brand and you are not being ripped off. I am only 17, in high school. I don't have a job, but over the past couple years I would have easily spent over $2,000 on my mountain bike. But because of craigslist, keeping my eyes out for good deals I have kept that under $1,000.

Mongoose Brawler Boy's BMX/Jump Bike (20-Inch Wheels) is definitely the color to choose. It was packaged well and easy to assemble (there was actually less assembly required than expected). It rides very smoothly and quietly, and the parts are high quality. Part of me would like it lighter than 28lbs. (its not 100% chromoly) but overall I have absolutely no complaints - and no matter what others say about Mongoose, this bike is high quality. I haven't fully exposed it to the jumps and action of a dirt track, but I'm not expecting any issues. For the price you get all the quality parts of a higher priced bike, except maybe for 3 or 4 extra pounds. I'm not a big guy but this bike handles well what I do carry around (5-8' 160lbs). Absolutely recommend this bike for 1st time BMX riders as well as mid-entry level riders.
