I just got a SRAM PC -830 that works for 5-6-7 gears cog sets with Power link. Somebody will have to verify this, but I understand that if you remove the P-link you have to use a new one. The price was $13. Take your old one to the bike shop and get a new chain from a real person. They may cut off the extra links at no charge. You will not save any $ for buying online. I got this nice tip about how to hold the chain in place with a piece of coat hanger while you check the length you need. I didn't know how many links I needed because I was replacing the cassette and the chain rings but you don't need that, just make it the same length. While you are at the shop ask them to check if you need a cassette. Better to have one at the same time unless it is in really good shape. A worn out one will eat you chain. You will need a chain tool to remove a few links of the chain if you decide to go solo, $5-20. Cheap tools from W****** tend to break. I know, I broke two. So you can get your bike running for about $30 if you need to buy the tool. Or $13 if you get the mechanic cut it for you. probalby more if you buy the same chain online. This is a diferent model tough, couldn't find the 830: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/16973-070_SRA908-3-Parts-381-Chains/Sram-PC-890-Chain-W_powerlink-Silver-8-Speed-2009.htm

Save yourself a lot of time, effort & possible grief. Just go to a REAL bicycle shop. You'll get the right chain at a decent price.

You need a standard 5-8 speed 3/32 inch chain. Chains come with 114-116 links more then enough for any bike. It will need a few links removed with a chain breaker. I like SRAM chains, they come with a P link so you can remove it for cleaning. Call the local bike shops and ask.
I broke my Ultegra chain about two weeks ago and it cost just shy of $60 to have it replaced at my LBS. Took about 15 minutes to get the job done and I was back on the road. Most chains are cheaper so I would think under $50 would be a good guess...and that includes the chain.
