How much does it cost to have my BMX chain shortened?

  • I bought a KMC gold BMX chain last week, it is 112 link and my BMX needs about 96. I was going to buy myself a chain breaker or something but i was wondering about a professional bike shop. The bike shop i was thinking of is small and privately run by a friendly chap, how much will he charge me to remove the links?

    Probably not much. My bike store gave me a demonstration on how to do it at no charge. I asked the same question at my local bike store and found out that I could purchase a multi purpose tool that looks like a swiss army knife and do the job myself. The reason I bought the tool is that I ride many times in places where there are no bike stores around to fix my bike. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been able to assist another bycyclist with a repair.

Man dont spend money on something you can do yourself. Get the chain breaker(which is ULTRA cheap like $5 american) and take off the links. Dont throw them out tho because yu may need them if you ever damage and pop your chain. The links can be bent.

Misfire

Usually as much as the chain breaker tool, I figure about $10.00. I would go for buying the tool, as you need one evey time you get a new chain. You could ask around and probably find some bicyclist with the tool and have them shorten it for free.

well if you get a chain breaker you could shorten a chain any time and its not that expensive but a bike shop will keep charging you time after time p.s. a chain breaker is so easy to use
