What skills are needed for mountain biking?

Hi. I am doing a college assignment and have to compare, contrast and evaluate two skills and two techniques that are involved with mountain biking. so far i have two techniques but no skills. Any help?

well, skills are derived from techniques... but I guess "pumping" would be one skill thats pretty handy... if you dont know what it is, look up 'mark weir pumptrack' or something like that on youtube. its a really nice skill to have because you can retain, or even gain speed in areas that would be difficult to pedal through
