Do dirt jump bikes make good mountain bikes?
-
I am looking at getting into the sport of mountain biking. I have looked at a few solid, name brand mountain bikes but I am on a limited budget. Mind you, all these bikes are used. The 2 choices are a KHS dj200 and a Specialized rockhopper. I have criteria I want my bike to meet. 1. Has to be easy to ride in the city. 2. Has to be able to climb and descend trails easily. 3. Should be able to cross obstacles and land small jumps. I am liking the bmx style of the dj200. But I'm not sure it would be great for climbing trails or going over obstacles. Anyone with mountain bike experience, feel free to share your opinion.

Answer:
No. The style of BMX bikes makes it uncomfortable to ride on that kind of terrain . Mountain bike are maid specifically for riding up and down tough rugged terrain, that is also why the gears were put on the bike.
