Why is it illegal to ride gas scooters but not electric ones?

How old do you have to be to ride..?

  • on the road with a scooter. My Kids are Emily and Hannah twins both 12 their bday is august and for Christmas "Santa" brought them gas powerd scooters both scooters have Moped tags they are Mopeds but are called scooter b/c they are 1 size under Moped brand. do they need moped license. ITS A 50CC SCOOTER please help they want to ride it on a highway to school there scooters both can go upto 80 mph but they WILL go correct speed.

    It is illegal for them to ride on the road they are too young. Mopeds have pedals scooters don't.

Scooter or Moped...makes no difference. It can NOT legally be taken on an Interstate highway or other "limited access highway" with a speed limit greater than what the scooter/moped can do. Furthermore - it's quite possibly illegal for a child under 16 to ride one in your state and/or city. You need to check the DMV laws where you live. Personally, I think you just made a huge mistake, both financially & parentally. BTW...the speedometer may register up to 80mph. But no way will a 50cc scooter reach that speed. Can't be done. I OWN one exactly like linked below.
