Passing people with a bicycle?

I've decided it's safer for everyone to just not wake them up at all - I just give plenty of room and keep going right by. Worst case is I startle them and they jump a bit, but I'm already past by then. The scary ones are the kids, especially when Junior is further up the trail than Momma, and she starts yelling "get out of the way" - when I hear that, I just hit the brakes, there's no telling what the kid will do.

i tend to go with "PASSING" which lets those who have driver's licenses know to stay in the right lane. for junior or fido, i slow way down and give as much room as possible. but mostly i ride on the road and not on the multi-use trails to avoid the situation altogether.

Some people just dont have good coordination. So when you tell them that you are on one side, just by hearing something they get kinda distracted and it takes them a while to process the info, and then they dint have good cordination, so instead of going on the right, they go right in front of you. Either that, or the people are jerks.

Yep thats happened, Try being louder while your still far behind them, then they will be more aware that your approaching.

happens to me all the time. more often then not, they'll actually pull left in front of me, then STOP. knocked a guy complete ***-backwards because of this. he deserved it though for being such a moron.

Yes, I always ring a bell or yell "heads up" if I can anticipate a problem like that... Even when you say "on your left" I have found that some people don't know their left from their right??!!??!!
