How do you make a BMX bike seat higher?
-
For christmas I got a bmx bike, I dont plan on doing tricks on it I just preferred a bmx bike because they're not as high up. But when I got it the seat was very low down and slanted backward and its uncomfortable to sit on. How do you make the seat higher? and is it possible to make the seat straight forward and not slanted? or could I just buy a new, non-slanted bike seat and put it on the bmx bike?

Answer:
On any correctly sized bicycle you are at about the same height from the ground when the saddle is properly adjusted. It is true that bikes with bigger wheels look higher, but the saddle is at the same height as it would be on your BMX. To raise a saddle: you will see a bolt that goes through a clamp where the seatpost enters the frame. Loosen the bolt using the correct size wrench or hex key, and the seatpost can be pulled up. Be careful that you don't pull it up past the minimum insertion mark that is engraved into the seatpost. If you can't raise it high enough, you may have to buy a new seatpost. Many BMX bikes with arrangements like this have very short seatposts so beware. As for saddle angle, there are 1 or 2 bolts holding the saddle to the seatpost, they have to be loosened to adjust saddle angle. Designs differ so you have to figure out how to do this yourself. If you are unsure, a visit to a local bike shop is what you should do. The mechanic can make these adjustments in a few minutes, and if you ask for help politely, they might not even charge you

You can fix all that with a few tools. To adjust the hight, there is an allen wrench bolt around the seat post where the post goes into the frame. (Allen wrench is the hexagon shaped one) To adjust the angle, underneat the seat are 2 small bars and they are held on to the seat post. You loosen the joints and makes the seat flat and tighten them. It is really easy, so if you ask someone to help they shouldn't mind.

try what the others said but you may be disappointed if your real goal is long distances, or speed, with any bmx they just aren;t designed for that though getting the seat off the ground is a start :) wle
