I can't ride a bike and Im going to a school trip?
-
Tomorrow Im going mountain biking with the school. I can't ride a bike and Im 15!!! I never learnt. When I was younger I used to have a bike but I never wanted to take the training wheels off. Then I grew so the bike was too small and I gave it away. I never bored to get a bike after that. My mom talked about getting me a bike but I always put it off. Im too scared of falling to ride without training wheels. What should I do? Everyone is gonna laugh if I can't ride a freakin bike andmy teacher is not gonna be please either. HELP!

Answer:
Too late to learn now, you need at least a few days practice to get going well enough to cope with any sort of mountain biking. Sounds as if you don't even have a bike to try out, so at this stage there's nothing you can do but own up. Then buy a cheap second-hand bike and put in a few hours practice.

Too late to learn for your mountain bike trip. Tell the teacher you are unable to ride a bicycle. Your teacher has no right to be displeased you are unable to ride a bicycle. What the teacher has the right to be displeased is the fact you did not tell him/her you can't ride a bicycle when the trip was announced. There are kids in my neighborhood I NEVER see on a bicycle. Shame. Your classmates will laugh and tease you. Kids in school are mean, just knife in the heart mean. Best to get a thick skin and ignore the mean spirited comments and taunts. Get a proper multi-geared bicycle and learn to ride. I reside in the USA and have ridden in 17 states and Ontario, Canada. One of the best way to travel and see the sights of your country. Plus costs nothing to operate. Here is a life lesson I wan to pass along to you. Automobile ownership will be the biggest financial drain during your lifetime. Longer you can go without car ownership, the better. Something to consider as you approach adulthood. Good Luck

No problem, just explain to your teacher that you can't ride and spend tomorrow learning how to ride. Other kids WILL laugh at you but not because they think you're an embarrassment, it'll just be something funny for them to watch and if there are any experienced riders amongst them they will be happy to help you learn; by the end of tomorrow you may be able to ride quite well on your own. Just relax and enjoy being the center of attention.

How pleased will your teacher be if the trip is interrupted for everyone because you can't ride? Don't go, and advise the teacher of the reason. Would you agree to swim the English Channel if you didn't know how to swim? Yes, you should learn to ride a bike, but you're not going to be good enough at it in one day to ride safely offroad.

Ok well i learnt really late too, at the age of twelve. TO START: You just need to make sure that you are on a flat piece of land. Push one of the pedals really hard, and this will get your bike going. Then press the other pedal down with your other foot and you will continue to move. It might be some time, getting used to the momentum but you will become balanced. Personally, i had to learn on my own, i couldn't have someone holding onto the handlebars for me, it just didnt work (mainly because i knew they were going to let go)! It's a sunday, you have a lot of time to practise, so get out there, and good luck xxx

Maybe I take too many things for granted. In my world I feel bad because I cannot seem to grasp other things which seem basic to others. Do you have a bike? Get on it and begin to do what it takes to keep that thing in motion. Wear a helmet. I went on a cub scout trip(7th grade) and we had to cross an abandoned railroad bridge along the course of 5 mile hike. Everyone else made it easily across, I was almost literally dragged across it. You may never be at riding bikes. I think you are about to receive a crash course (pun intended) in riding a bike. It's easier than you think. I might be wrong because if I had to cross that bridge again I would be just as unable to do so now than I was then. My point is, I live for bicycles and i have no problem with the kenesthetics involved with riding them. I would've been a good rock climber, too, untill I get about 10 feet high and I begin to freeze. I don't know how to tell you how to ride a bike, I'm just saying that if you can't figure it out, it does not make you less of a human nor does it make you an inadequate person. Just means that riding bicycles may not necessarily be your thing. Just try.
